A 12.6 KW solar electric system powers the FL Green Team headquarters and showroom in Fort Myers, Florida. The 72 Solar World solar electric panels mounted on our roof provide all of the electricity for our 21,000 square foot building and warehouse. The solar electric panels make the FL Green Team a carbon neutral facility, meaning we produce enough electricity to offset our consumption on an annual basis. Two 6,000 watt Sunny Boy inverters inside of the building, convert the DC current produced by the solar electric panels to AC current electricity. The solar electric system is “grid-tied” so if the system produces more electricity than used, the meter will run backwards and the utility company will buy the excess power back. The solar electric system works most efficiently on cool sunny days, however as long as the sun is shining, electricity is being generated. The electric bill for our entire space is sometimes as low as $8!
Can a Solar Electric System power my home?
The answer is, Yes! The philosophy of the FL Green Team is to make your home as efficient as possible before installing a solar electric system. By replacing your air conditioner, adding window tint, using solar water heating system and insulating your attic, your electric consumption can be cut in half. Which, when considering a solar electric system, means you only have to produce half of your previous electric consumption. The solar electric system will in turn be smaller and more affordable forhomeowners.
Incentives & Rebates for Solar Electric Systems
The Federal Government offers 30% of the cost of a solar electric system as a tax credit. FPL is offering homeowners a rebate up to $20,000 to install a solar electric system. Funds for the FPL Solar Rebate are limited so you must act quickly.
